Our Story

Born from
two worlds.

The Beginning

How a
journey of
100 countries
found its home.

Mark was living in Melbourne. Tokyo was just a trip — a long weekend, no agenda, no plan beyond the flight back on Sunday. He found a communal café in Omotesando, sat down next to a woman whose food looked extraordinary, and said exactly that.

Taeko looked up.

She had grown up twenty minutes from that café, in Musashino, on the quieter western edge of the city where Tokyo breathes at a different pace. She had never needed to go far. Everything worth knowing was already here.

He had been to over a hundred countries and somehow it took one café, one table, one honest observation about someone's lunch to find the place he'd actually stay.

She visited him in Melbourne. Then she came back. Then the question of where to live stopped being a question. Tokyo.

Pukkacrafted came later — but the instinct behind it came from that table in Omotesando. The belief that the best things happen when you pay attention to what's right in front of you. That quality announces itself if you're looking. That sometimes a weekend changes everything. He brought the leather. She brought the city. Together they are making something built to last — which, if you know either of them, is the only way they know how to do anything.

"Pukka. We looked it up on day one. It means the real thing. We haven't used another word since."

Musashino, Tokyo

Born and raised in Musashino, on the quiet western edge of Tokyo where the city breathes differently. Taeko grew up surrounded by a culture that treats craft not as a hobby but as a discipline — where the way something is made is inseparable from what it means.

[Her professional background and education — update once Mark shares details.] Her eye for proportion, texture, and restraint shapes every Pukkacrafted piece from the first sketch to the final stitch.

[Personal craft memory — grandmother detail to be added.] Pukkacrafted is her love letter to the city that made her — and to the belief that things worth keeping are worth making properly.

"In Musashino, we were taught that patience is not waiting. It is working carefully."

Most people visit the world. Mark lived in it. Eight countries across five continents — not as a tourist passing through, but as a resident building a life, learning a city, understanding what makes a place worth staying in. Over a hundred countries visited along the way.

That kind of life sharpens your eye. You stop noticing what things look like and start noticing what they are made of — how they hold up, how they age, whether they were built to last or built to be replaced. Most things, he found, were built to be replaced.

Tokyo was not a stop on his journey. It was the end of it — the city where the standard for how things are made finally matched his own. Pukkacrafted is what happens when a life spent everywhere finds a reason to stay somewhere, and build something that lasts.
